About this event
Well, It's been a minute.....2 years to be exact. What's so important that would drag me out of retirement???? A rock....I like rocks. This years Charity Ride will be supporting the Doniphan County Freedom Rock Foundation. This group is working to bring a "Freedom Rock" to Doniphan county. A Freedom Rock will serve as a powerful tribute to the men and women who have served our country. If you have spent anytime in Iowa you may have seen one of these rocks. So...maybe it's more that a rock that has pulled me out of retirement. A few years ago I took a group trip with my daughter to Washington DC....we saw all the sights, including the Vietnam Memorial. I have no direct connecting to this war. But on that day....we were given a piece of paper with a name of a soldier from our area that was killed in action. You were suppose to find this person's name on the Wall, and then with a pencil, create a "grave rubbing". This all seemed silly....until I found his name....then the emotions hit, all of the sudden I had a connection. This is why things like this matter. Memorials we can visit, give us a space to reflect. Come join us Aug 15th and help this group raise the funds needed to make this happen! Community building in Denton ks.
